NEW DELHI: The Directorate of Estates has issued an eviction notice to the Congress party, instructing them to vacate the accommodation in New Delhi’s Chanakyapuri in the Lutyens’ Bungalow Zone. According to official documents, the estate in the capital was given to the Congress party. Vincent George, a close aide of Congress president Sonia Gandhi and a close associate of Rahul Gandhi, lived here for a long time.
The party government has to pay Rs 3.08 crore as rent due for this bungalow. The rent for this bungalow, C-II / 109, was last paid in August 2013. In February this year, the central government had issued a notice to the Congress asking it to pay the rent arrears of the Congress office, Sonia's official residence and this bungalow.
The Directorate notice states that the apartment is now under illegal occupation as the residence allotment was cancelled in June 2013. According to the notice, the Congress has been asked to reply within three working days.
Following the eviction of Priyanka Gandhi from the Lodhi Estate bungalow in 2020, the Estate Directorate brought back the old proposal to evict the party from the four main bungalows. Along with the C-II / 109 bungalow, it also includes the Congress Seva Dal office at 24 Akbar Road and the Youth Congress office at 26 Akbar Road.
