KAYAMKULAM: Five gram weighing chain and earrings were robbed after beating a woman gate keeper at a railway gate. The victim was identified as 28-year old Sasthamcotta native Aswathy. The injured Aswathy was admitted to Kayamkulam Government Hospital. After biting the thief's hand, she ran out of the gatekeeper's room to escape further attack. The incident happened at 9 pm on Saturday.
The thief has not been identified yet. Burglaries also took place at five houses near the railway track the previous day. Police are investigating by focusing on Tamil gangs.
Commenting on the incident, Aswathy said: "After the train passed, the gate was opened and the vehicles were allowed to pass. I heard telephone ringing and went into the room to pick up. This time someone kicked the door open and came inside and knocked me down. My earrings were pulled out. The necklace was also nabbed. I screamed but he did not back down. After finally biting his arm, I ran outside and escaped."
