THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Extensive damage due to heavy rain in southern districts of Thiruvananthapuram and Kollam in Kerala.Strong winds and heavy rains disrupted traffic in many places. In the capital, a tree fell near Kanakakunnu and near the AKG Centre. A tree fell down in museum. Most of the major roads were flooded. Then there was a traffic jam. Vehicles had to be stopped on the Chathannoor Parippally national highway.

The rain that started in the afternoon continued unabated for hours. Heavy rains also lashed in the hilly areas of Thiruvananthapuram district. A tree fell on Minister GR Anil's official residence. The shutters of the Aruvikkara Dam were opened. In Chadayamangalam, Kollam district, due to strong wind and rain, rubber trees fell on the roof of a house and the roof collapsed. In Kottarakkara and Karavalur, a tree fell on the roof of the house and caused extensive damage. Heavy showers are forecast in South and Central Kerala in the coming hours. However, there will be no heavy rainfall in North Kerala. The Met Office said fishermen should be vigilant.
