ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court has not issued an interim order on a petition filed by the opposition against the dissolution of the Pakistani parliament. Arguments will continue tomorrow on the opposition's plea. The military has said it will not intervene in the political dispute.
The opposition demanded that a bench comprising all the judges of the Supreme Court hear the case on the governance crisis in Pakistan. But the court did not accept this. Instead, a five-member bench headed by the Chief Justice heard the case. The court also rejected the opposition's demand that the dissolution of parliament be stayed by an interim order. Chief Justice Omar Ata Bandiyal said the verdict would be constitutional after hearing detailed arguments on all issues.
The trial is set to begin at 12 noon tomorrow. Meanwhile, military spokesperson Babur Iftikhar said the army had nothing to do with the country's political crisis.
