COLOMBO: President Gotabaya Rajapaksa's move to form all-party government has suffered a backlash amid protests of the people. The largest opposition party is the United Nations The People's Force (SJB) declined the invitation.

The opposition want people to elect the new government through elections. SJB has 54 members in the 225-member assembly. On Sunday to form a coalition government the Prime Minister met with the Cabinet at night, with the exception of Rajapaksa, all the 26 ministers have resigned.

Protests erupted in the streets after the 36-hour curfew ended at 6am yesterday. The main demand is that the president and prime minister should resign. Protests in front of PM's house became violent. The emergency situation still continues. The government lifted the ban on social media after 15 hours.
