ISLAMABAD: The entire world is curious to see the developments in Pakistan after the military made it clear that it was not interested in intervening in the political crisis. Meanwhile, the Pakistan Supreme Court stated that the Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly, who was dismissed, had discretion to reject the no-confidence motion.

At the same time, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan on Monday nominated former chief justice, Gulzar Ahmed, as the caretaker Prime Minister of Pakistan.

Gulzar Ahmed's nomination follows a letter written earlier today by President Dr Arif Alvi to the prime minister and Leader of the Opposition in the outgoing National Assembly Shehbaz Sharif to propose names of suitable persons for appointment as caretaker premier under Article 224-A(1 )of the Constitution, the Pakistani newspaper reported.

Pakistan's Supreme Court on Monday adjourned the hearing by a day in the high-profile case about the rejection of a no-confidence motion by the National Assembly deputy speaker and the subsequent dissolution of Parliament. A five-member bench headed by Chief Justice Umar Ata Bandial will hear the case. Justice Muneeb Akhtar pointed out that the Deputy Speaker has the power under the rules of the Assembly to reject a no-confidence motion.

A three-judge bench comprising the Chief Justice on Sunday rejected the petition seeking immediate quashing of the action dissolving the Assembly. However, the court on Sunday ruled that all orders and actions issued by the prime minister and the president would be subject to a court order.

The court issued notices to five people, including the president, the prime minister and the deputy speaker.
