KANNUR: The CPM will enter the 23rd Party Congress tomorrow without any confusion or controversy over its approach to the Congress and the BJP and without being disturbed by factionalism. The party congress will be held at Nayanar Nagar, EK Nayanar Academy, Burnassery, Kannur till April 10. The party congress will take an important decision to take advantage of the situation created by the ongoing struggles, including in the context of the peasant struggle. Sitaram Yechury is likely to run for a third term as General Secretary.

The draft political resolution states that the CPM, which has the main task of defeating the BJP at the national level, will adopt electoral tactics to maximize anti-BJP votes. There will be no change in the position of the Hyderabad Party Congress that there is no political alliance with the Congress. However, the party might look for possible ways in the fight against the BJP. Priority will be given to strengthening the unity of the Left and developing the independent strength of the party.

"In Parliament, the party must co-operate with secular opposition parties on issues of mutual consent. It will work for a broader organization of secular forces against the communal agenda outside parliament," the draft political resolution stated.

The CPM document alleges that the Congress, which is adopting neo-liberal policies in the ruling states, is incapable of mobilizing all the secular parties. At the same time, CPM leaders are of the view that the Congress should make clear its stance on the party's tactical approach in the fight against the BJP. The Kerala component too agrees with this stance.
