THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Satyagraha agitation carried out by the KSEB officers at the Vaidyuthi Bhavan headquarters yesterday turned violent. The protesters marched towards the Vaidyuthi Bhavan. They then stormed into the chairman's room on the seventh floor and tried to disrupt the review meeting of the projects. Officers, including women, staged a sit-in protest in the hall. They were removed from the hall by senior leaders.
The satyagraha was in protest of the management's decision to take action against the executive engineer, who was in charge of power supply in key areas of the city, for keeping away from work without applying for leave. The management had suspended Jasmine Banu, who is also the state office bearer of the KSEB Officers' Association, on the basis of the vigilance report. More than 200 officers went on strike despite warnings that dies-non would be imposed if they boycotted work and staged a satyagraha.
However, the KSEB management said that no complaint has been lodged with the police against those who trespassed on the yoga hall and that the protest was seen only as an expression of the sentiments of the employees. The management also said in its official statement that it will take strong action against those who violate discipline and takes part in violence.
Pushpalatha, State Joint Secretary, Democratic Women's Association, inaugurated the protest in front of Vaidyuthi Bhavan this morning. KSEB Officers Association President MG Suresh Kumar presided over the function.
