MUMBAI: Former India players Ravi Shastri and Sunil Gavaskar have blamed captain Sanju Samson for the defeat of Rajasthan Royals to Royal Challengers Bangalore in the recent IPL match. The two expresed their views in a post-match discussion. When Shastri criticized Sanju's decision to select bowlers, Gavaskar blamed the field he set for Dinesh Karthik. It is noteworthy that both of them praised Sanju a lot after winning the first two matches and changed their words after one defeat.
Shastri was triggered by Sanju's decision to replace Chahal with Navdeep Saini in the RCB's 15th over. Shastri said that as soon as Karthik reached the crease in the 14th over, Ashwin's no ball reduced the pressure on the batsmen. Karthik scored 21 runs in the over bowled by Ashwin. In the next over, Sanju choose Saini as the bowler. Shastri, however, said that Chahal, who was the best bowler in the team, should have been bowled instead and this was a big mistake on Sanju's part as a captain.
Meanwhile, Sunil Gavaskar questioned Sanju's move to put Prasidh Krishna in front of Dinesh Karthik without placing any fielders in the deep midfield onside. According to Gavaskar, Sanju's move was a huge boost for Karthik, who is strong onside.
