ERNAKULAM: MP Rajmohan Unnithan has come out in harsh criticism of Congress leader K V Thomas following his announcement to participate in the CPM party congress seminar. He has received the maximum positions a person can receive from a party. I cannot understand what more does K V Thomas want, Rajmohan said.

K V Thomas was the minister in charge of the most important portfolio in Kerala, for three years. He contested to the Indian parliament from the Congress and was an MP for 22 years. He was given the civil supplies portfolio, the most important department in the Indian parliament. He was the chairman of the Public Accounts Committee. He has served as an MLA for eight years, a state minister for three years and a union minister for five years. Despite being given so many privileges, he says that he is disappointed and the party is ignoring him. What should people understand from this?, Unnithan asked.

The CPM is deciding who should attend the party congress from the Congress. They had invited Shashi Tharoor and K V Thomas. Shashi Tharoor has not received any such huge benefits from the party unlike KV Thomas. Tharoor accepted the Congress chief’s decision. However, for some time now, K V Thomas' body has been in the Congress while his mind is with the Marxist party, Unnithan alleged.

I don’t think that K V Thomas will leave Congress. But, a person who defies the written notice, given by the president of the All India Congress Committee (AICC), can no longer remain in the party. The Congress president had asked him not to attend the seminar. K V Thomas who has violated and defied the chief’s decision has insulted the whole party and cannot be called a Congressman.

From now onwards, Thomas will not have any place in the minds of the Congress activists in Kerala. If he gets anything from the Marxist party that he has not had for so long, let him have it. But, what he has done to the party is ingratitude. Congressmen will not forgive him. He has fallen into a trap and will have to pay huge price for it, he said.

Congress leader K V Thomas had earlier said that he will attend the CPM party congress seminar. ‘I will not join any other party and will die as a Congressman’, he added. ‘Seminar is of national importance. That is why, I sought permission. I was even told that I would be ousted from the party. Leaders, including Rahul Gandhi, have attended CPM conferences’, he said.

He had begun the press conference saying that he was announcing an important decision of his political career. KPCC President K Sudhakaran had asked him not to attend the seminar, last day.
