THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The police have nabbed a Nigerian native identified as Kingsley Johnson Chakwacha, one of the main accused in the gang that swindled Rs 64 lakhs from a native of Vilappilsala. The accused was arrested by the Thiruvananthapuram rural cyber police from Mumbai.
The accused had acquainted with the complainant, under the guise of a top official in the Britain City Bank, via e-mail and social media.
The accused had carried out the fraud after promising the complainant a billion dollars from foreign banks for social work and charity activities. They had transferred a total of Rs 64 lakhs from the complainant to several accounts, citing various purposes such as income tax, court affidavit and financial action task fee.
The police had earlier arrested Malika Marshal Francis, another accused in the case, from Chinchwad in Pune last month. The accused, who came to know about the police probe, was nabbed while trying to escape with the documents used for the fraud. Several documents, including ATM cards, credit cards, cheque books and passbooks of various banks, were seized from the accused.
The accused was arrested by a team consisting of Thiruvananthapuram rural cyber-crime police station inspector Ratheesh G S, sub inspector Shamshad, civil police officers Adeen Ashok, Vimal Kumar and Shyam Kumar under the direction of Thiruvananthapuram rural district police chief Dr Divya Gopinath, ADSP Bijumon and DySP Viju Kumar.
