THRISSUR: A 44-year-old man was sentenced to double life imprisonment, 10 years rigorous imprisonment and fined Rs 30,000 for raping his daughter and impregnating her. Irinjalakuda Fast Track Special Court Judge KP Pradeep convicted Rashid, a native of Nedumangad. Punishment was imposed under various sections relating to rape. The court also ordered that the fine amount be transferred to the girl. If the fine is not paid, he will face another three years.

The girl was raped several times during 2018-19. The doctor who treated the girl, who arrived at the hospital in 2020 with abdominal pain, reported the matter to the police on suspicion. Subsequent investigations revealed that the father had raped his daughter and made her pregnant. The prosecution presented 22 documents to the court, including a report of a DNA test. 19 witnesses were also questioned. Special Public Prosecutor Advocate KN Sinimol appeared for the prosecution. The probe was led by CIs Bijoy PR, MJ Jijo and PG Anoop.
