KANNUR: CPM general secretary Sitaram Yechury has sharply criticized the Congress. Attempts are being made to undermine the federal character of the country. The Congress was not even willing to attend the seminar based on that. Action was taken against the participants. How can we stand with the Congress in the fight to protect secularism in this situation? He said the Congress should examine itself where it stands in Indian politics today. He was speaking after inaugurating the concluding session of the Party Congress.

Home Minister says Hindi language should be made compulsory. India is a country formed on the basis of language. This is a challenge to federalism. Kerala is the only state that treats people as human beings. The friendly atmosphere still prevails here. The Kerala model has to be implemented all over the country. People are not judged in Kerala on the basis of religion. Development projects in Kerala will be extended to other states of the country. Yechury said that Kerala is a model for the country.
