cable-car-collision

RANCHI: Two people have died in a cable car collision at Trikut hills near Baba Baidyanath Temple in Jharkhand's Deoghar district. Numerous people have sustained injuries, said the authorities. The accident took place on Sunday evening. Around 48 people are still stuck in at least 18 cabins in the ropeway for hours.

According to officials, the rescue operations are underway with the assistance of Air Force helicopters. Drones were used to deliver food and water to the stranded people.

One of the cable cars, which was going downwards at around 5 pm on Sunday, had collided with another car moving upwards. The incident appears to have occurred due to a technical snag. However, the exact cause is yet to be ascertained, said an official. A team of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) was sent to the spot for the rescue operation, said Deoghar Deputy Commissioner Manjunath Bhajantri.

The ropeway in Trikut is India’s highest vertical ropeway. It is situated around 20 km from Baba Baidyanath Temple, is around 766-metres-long and has 25 cabins. Four people can sit in each cabin.
