KOLLAM: A son was seen brutally beating his old mother at Thekkumbhagam in Chavara. He was seen beating his 84-year-old mother Omana demanding money. When his brother tried to prevent the act, he was also beaten. The Thekkumbhagam police have taken the accused Omanakuttan into custody. Police said he beat her under the influence of alcohol.

The incident came to light after the visuals captured by a student in the neighbourhood surfaced. Her clothes were seen falling during the attack and the visuals show Omanakuttan hurling abuses at her.

Meantime, she is not ready to give a statement against her son. She told police and the doctors who attended on her that she sustained the injuries in a fall. Meantime, the police have decided to register a case based on the visuals.

The locals said Omanakuttan constantly harasses his mother in a drunken stage, but she has never lodged a complaint against him. Her two children are unmarried.
