THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Yellow alert was declared in eight districts in the state today against the backdrop of continuous heavy rains. The Met Office has forecast heavy rains in the coming days.


The Central meteorological department has forecasted isolated rains, thundershowers and winds with a speed of up to 40 kilometre per hour in all districts of Kerala. Thundershowers and winds of up to 40 kmph in isolated places have been forecasted in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Alappuzha, Idukki, Ernakulam, Thrissur and Palakkad districts during the next three hours. The Eastern, Central and Southern Kerala will receive heavy rainfall in the next few hours. There are also chances of strong winds and thunderstorms. Today the yellow alert has been declared in eight districts from Thiruvananthapuram to Thrissur.

Yellow alert for Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam and Idukki districts tomorrow. It may rain heavily tomorrow afternoon. In northern Kerala, the rainfall will be more in the eastern region. Fishing has been banned off the coast of Kerala. Due to the cyclonic circulation in the south-western Bay of Bengal, the winds are favorable for Kerala which results in continuous rain. The rains will continue until the cyclonic circulation reaches the Arabian Sea. The low pressure area above South India also causes rainfall. The current estimate is that the rainfall will decrease by Friday.
