NEW DELHI: A 27-year-old son has testified against his mother in a divorce case between his parents. The son testified in the Supreme Court that when he was seven, his mother used to beat him and lock him in the toilet for hours. The case was considered by a two-judge bench headed by Supreme Court Justices DY Chandrachud and Surya Kant.

The couple, who got married in 1988, filed for divorce in 2002 after 14 years. It was the husband who filed for divorce in court. The wife, who opposed her husband's demand, argued that it was difficult for her to live in the society as a divorcee. Following the wife's request to speak to her son, the court asked the son to speak to the mother.

The son, who rejected the court's request, then told the court that his mother used to beat him and lock him inside a bathroom when he was just seven years old. However, his wife's lawyer told the court that the son was speaking according to a scripted tale and that nothing like this had happened. The court responded by stating that the son was 27 years old and that his statement could not be dismissed lightly. The husband's lawyer told the court that the case had been going on for the past 20 years and that the wife had never sought custody of the child. The son has been living with his father ever since his parents started living separately.
