KANNUR: Sitaram Yechury, who was re-elected CPM general secretary for the third time, said that the party would go down to the grassroots of the society and mobilize them to lead the protests and strengthen the party.

Yechury, who said that efforts will continue to establish a Left democratic alternative in the country, added that the secular alliance would be strengthened.

"While workers and peasants, led by the CPM's class mass organizations, are protesting against anti-people policies, the Centre is diverting attention by raising communal issues. That is why they are raising issues like hijab. Unemployment and poverty are not a problem for the BJP. They are attempting to polarize people in the name of religion and race. It will require political and cultural intervention. A strong intervention was made in the struggle against agricultural laws. The long march from Nashik to Mumbai before the Delhi Struggles was a great advance," Yechury said.

Will strengthen party's influence in Hindi sector

"We will try to strengthen the party in the area of Hindi language influence. A meeting of state leaders in the region will be convened soon. Intervention will also be intensified in northeastern states like Assam, where communalism is rapidly gaining ground," he added.
