KOLLAM: Crucial information has surfaced in the incident in which a mother was brutally beaten up by her drunk son. An 84-year-old mother, Omana Amma of Chavara Vadakkumbhagam Pauthikkal house, was brutally beaten up her younger son Omanakuttan (55). The attack followed his allegation that she had given his money, kept inside the house, to his brother. Omanakuttan also attacked his brother Babu who tried to prevent the violence. The incident took place at around 3 pm on Sunday.

Although the police approached Omana Amma, after the visuals of the incident were widely spread on social media, she initially refused to lodge a complaint against her son. She told the police that she had sustained the injuries in a fall. Later, Chavara Thekkumbhagam police arrested her son after she gave the statement.

The visuals showed Omanakuttan continuously beating his mother. He grabbed her by her arms and threw her onto the stairs. She was grabbed again and beaten up with a stick on the back. He did not leave her even after she cried out loud. He also tried to stab a stick into her abdomen. Omanakuttan, who was drunk, had even tried to grab his mother by her hair.

Omana Amma has four children. Out of them, Babu and Omanakuttan lives with their mother. Although both of them are married, their wives and children are living separately. According to the neighbours, Omanakuttan, who comes drunk, regularly beats his mother. No one tries to intervene, as he had earlier attacked those who tried to stop him with an iron rod.

Student captured the visuals

A student, who lives in the neighbourhood, had captured the visuals of Omanakuttan beating his mother Omana. The incident came to light as the visuals got circulated on social media.

Human Rights Commission registers case

The Human Rights Commission (HRC) has registered a case in the incident. Commission member V K Beena Kumari has directed the rural SP to take necessary action and submit a report within 15 days.
