NEW DELHI: India desires peace and stability in a region free of terror, said Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Modi made the statement in a tweet congratulating Shehbaz Sharif, who assumed power as the 23rd Prime Minister of Pakistan.

Meantime, Sharif invited Modi to solve Kashmir issue through talks. He said good relations with India should resolve the Kashmir issue and after resolving the issues, the two countries can work together to eradicate poverty.


Shehbaz, the younger brother of former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and president of the Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz) was at the helm of a series of moves by opposition parties to oust Imran. Shehbaz has been the chief minister of Punjab province thrice.
