NEW DELHI: The plea seeking the intervention of the central government for the release of Nimisha Priya, a Malayalee, in the case of murdering a Yemeni, has been rejected. The central government has stated that diplomatic intervention is not possible.
The government informed the court that it could not even negotiate a settlement for compensation. The government said they would help her relatives to file an appeal. The Delhi High Court rejected the plea filed by Save Nimisha Priya Action Council. The plea filed sought to direct the Centre to intervene to resolve the issue in the diplomatic level.
Nimisha Priya, a native of Palakkad was found guilty for murdering 24-year-old Talal Abdo Mahdi in 2017. Nimisha, who was working as a nurse in Yemen, was accused of chopping his body into pieces and disposing of it in a water tank. She was running a clinic along with Mahdi. She claimed that he brutally tortured her after seizing her passport and this led to the murder.
