RANCHI: The rescue operations have been completed in a cable car accident at Trikut hill near Baba Vaidyanath temple in Deoghar district of Jharkhand. Fifty people were rescued after being trapped in cable cars for more than 40 hours. The death toll from the incident rises to three.

Two people were killed when they fell from a helicopter during a rescue operation. The accident happened on the evening of Sunday, April 10. The rescue operation was carried out by the Indian Air Force, soldiers, Indo-Tibetan Border Police and NDRF.

The Jharkhand High Court has ordered an inquiry into the incident. The hearing will be held on April 26. The ropeway manager and other workers had fled the scene shortly after the incident. One of the cable cars, which was going down, collided with the car which was going up. Officials said the cable cars collided due to a technical fault and the exact cause has not yet been determined.

Trikut is the tallest ropeway in India. The ropeway is located at a distance of 20 km from the Baba Vaidyanath Temple and is 766 m long. There are 25 cabins on the ropeway. Each cabin can seat four people.
