EZHUKON: When the body of Suvya, who committed suicide at her husband's house, was brought to her house in Ezhukon , the house and surroundings were filled with heartbreaking cries.
In addition to her father and mother, Suvya regularly complained to relatives about domestic violence at her husband's house. Shortly before committing suicide, she sent a message to her father's sister Sujatha, a teacher at Govt. LP school Marand. It is 51 seconds long. Two other voice messages, having 24 and 14 seconds duration, were also sent.
Suvya is an MCA graduate who excelled in her studies. She completed her MCA after graduating in Mathematics from SN Women's College, Kollam. A government job was her big dream. For this, she quit her daily wage job at Kallada Krishi Bhavan and went for PSC coaching. She was included in Police Constable and Pathanamthitta District LDC main lists. But before the appointment, the rank list expired. Relatives said that Suvya's lack of regular income was the reason for her husband's insults.
Suvya suffered insults at her husband's home due to her family's conditions. Her father Sugathan has undergone heart surgery. Her brother Vishnu, a KSFE employee, has been undergoing treatment for kidney disease at the Ernakulam Medical Trust Hospital for years. In 2006, her mother Ambili's kidney was transplanted to Vishnu, but it failed. Vishnu's life was later saved because he got another man's kidney. About Rs 10 lakh was spent on treatment and other expenses. Even in this situation, Vishnu was trying to pay Rs 10 lakh that he was supposed to give at his sister's wedding. Vishnu earned half the amount and joined KSFE Chitty for the remaining amount.
Relatives said that Suvya ended her life because she did not want to be a burden to her family.
Suvya's voice messages, which can be considered as dying declaration, repeatedly urges to look after her six-year-old son Sripad. It was only after Suvya's death that the messages came to the attention of her father's sister Sujatha.
