PALAKKAD: The mother of a three-year-old boy has pleaded guilty in an incident in Elappully where the son was found dead. Police have arrested Asiya, who confessed of suffocating the baby. Mohammad Shan, son of Mohammad Shameer of Elappully Mannukadu Chuttipara was found dead at 9.30 am today.

The mother initially said that the baby was fed in the morning and then went to sleep but baby did not wake up later. Asiya told the relatives that dates might have stuck in the child's throat while eating. But the relatives suspected this and informed the police.

The body was then taken to the district hospital, in post-mortem it was revealed that the boy had been strangled to death. The report states that he was strangled with some soft material to prevent the bruising of the neck.

Following the post-mortem report, Kasaba police registered a case of murder and questioned the mother. Asiya lives with her mother and sister's family, for about a year after a quarrel with her husband.
