THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The practice of making mistakes in information in police's request submitted to the Collector, to impose a goonda law to stop the political-mafia-influenced goons from being listed as goons has come to an end. DYSPs and nodal officers in the office of the district police chief were assigned to prepare the application. Earlier, 'Kerala Kaumudi' had reported on the rescue of goons by falsifying documents. This action is taken as an impact of the report.
The application must be submitted to the Collector along with the seven-year case history of the regular criminals. The goons are saved by mistyping the case numbers, department and sections. If the information is incorrect, the Collector cannot order a reserve detention. If the collector takes action, the goons will escape by appeals in the Kappa Board and the High Court .The new system helps to avoid this.
In a meeting with top police officials on Monday, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan had directed to tighten the measures. Following this, it was decided to keep the case history of the goons in the stations accurately and to set up a system to monitor the deporting goons regularly.
Collectors are reluctant to order a reserve detention as the police makes mistakes in the file. In 60 per cent of the applications, the collectors have not taken a decision. Of this year's 252 applications are pending. 20 were rejected.
