THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Excise officials can now know the full details of regular criminals on a single computer click. A database containing all details such as the accused’s picture, fingerprint, cases and punishment is being prepared.
The action was taken as directed by commissioner Anantha Krishnan. It will be implemented at the district headquarters and the Excise Commissionerate with the assistance of the Excise Crime Records Bureau.
As the official receives information on his computer, investigation can be conducted quickly. It will also help in differentiating NDPS and Abkari cases. The new system has been arranged in the wake of the rise in smuggling of drugs such as cannabis, alcohol and MDMA.
As of now, information about an accused’s involvement in other cases is gathered from statements. As a result, it takes a lot of time to hand over such information to the police. Moreover, the statement given may not accurate as well.
The new system will facilitate quick action. The inclusion of information about those arrested in the past is also in progress, said the joint commissioner of the excise department.
