THRISSUR: One person was fatally knocked down by KSRTC’s Swift bus. Paraswamy of Tamil Nadu died in the accident that happened Thursday morning at Kunnamkulam in Thrissur. The over speeded bus hit Paraswamy when he was crossing the road to have tea. Though the seriously injured was taken to the hospital, his life could not be saved.

Reports said the bus did not stop after the accident. Police said the driver did not know about the accident. The bus going to Kozhikode from Thrissur met with the accident. The KSRTC Swift, which was inaugurated by the chief minister four days ago, had caused many accidents but this is the first time that a life has been lost.

The first two accidents took place within 24 hours of Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan flagging off the bus on April 11. The first accident was at Kallambalam in Thiruvananthapuram. The second accident happened at Kottakkal in Malappuram the next day at 10.30 am. The third accident was also at Kottakkal. The bus suffered damages in all the three accidents.

It has been decided to dismiss the two drivers following the assessment of the authorities that the fall on the part of the drivers in the first two accidents was not minor. All employees of Swift are on contract basis. Most of them were allegedly unfamiliar with driving new-generation buses, including Volvo. This was followed by a series of accidents involving buses.
