KOZHIKODE: BJP state president K Surendran has come out in support of Suresh Gopi in the Vishu kaineettam controversy. Surendran, who said that touching one's feet for blessings was part of Indian culture, added that those who are mentally deranged are raising criticism.

"The Devaswom Board is not taking the right stand in this regard. Suresh Gopi did a very good job and some people did not like it. Ours is not a western country. Touching one's feet for blessings is part of Indian culture. Those who are mentally deranged are raising criticisms," Surendran said.

A controversy had erupted after visuals of Suresh Gopi giving kaineettam to devotees surfaced. The devotees were seen touching Suresh Gopi's feet after receiving kaineettam from him.

Meanwhile, BJP activists will give kaineettam to all devotees visiting the Vadakkumnathan Temple in Thrissur today. The BJP's kaineettam strike is in protest of Cochin Devaswom Board's statement that melsanthis should not receive donations from people to distribute kaineettam.
