CHANDIGARH: Former Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi was questioned by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) for six hours in connection with an illegal sand mining case. The interrogation took place in Jalandhar. One of the main accused in the case is Bhupinder Singh alias Honey, Channi's nephew.

Channi, through his Twitter account, also confirmed his questioning by the ED. "I was summoned by the ED yesterday regarding the mining case. I attended and replied to the queries put by them to the best of my knowledge. A Challan in this case has already been presented by ED in the Hon'ble court. The authorities have not asked me to come again," Channi said in a tweet.

Although the ED had summoned Channi twice for questioning, he did not appear citing health issues. Channi was questioned about Bhupinder Singh's transfer while he served as the minister and chief minister. He was also questioned regarding the seizure of Rs 10 crore from Bhupinder Singh. In March 2018, a case was registered against Bhupinder Singh's associate Kudratdeep Singh. Bhupinder Singh was arrested in this case by the agency days before the Punjab Assembly polls.
