KARACHI: The wives of Pakistani players had also accompanied their husbands when the Pakistan cricket team arrived in India in 2012 for a series. Although wives of Pakistani cricketers usually do not travel with the team, the wives of all the Pakistani players who arrived in India that year traveled with the team. Now, former PCB chairman Zaka Ashraf has revealed that the wives of the players were allowed to travel with the team so as to carry out a special mission in India.
According to Ashraf, the decision was made in order to monitor the players at all times and to avoid any unnecessary controversy. Ashraf said the PCB had made the move also at the behest of the Pakistani government and military. "Every time a Pakistan team had toured India, their media would always try to trap us and tarnish the image of our players and country. So we took such a decision to avoid all sorts of controversies," Ashraf said.
In that tour, Pakistan played three ODIs and two T20Is against India. Although it was agreed that India would later travel to Pakistan for a series, the tour did not materialize as political tensions between the two nations escalated.
