KASARGOD: The mother and 8-year-old daughter of Malayali nurse Nimisha Priya, who is on death row in Yemen for the murder of a Yemeni national, will travel to Yemen. Nimisha Priya's mother Premakumari has approached the Ministry of External Affairs for permission to travel to Yemen and seek pardon from the family of the deceased. A group of six persons, including Nimisha Priya's mother and child, has sought the Centre's consent to go to Yemen.

The group will be going to Yemen to meet the family of the slain Yemeni citizen Talal and seek pardon. In a letter sent by Nimisha to her mother last week, she said it was an unintentional mistake and hoped that the family of the deceased Talal and the Yemeni people would forgive her.

The family of the slain youth had said that they were ready to withdraw from the case if they are paid blood money of Rs 70 lakh. However, this did not happen due to opposition from Yemeni citizens.

Nimisha Priya is the wife of Thodupuzha native Tommy Thomas. She was found guilty of murdering 24-year-old Talal Abdo Mahdi in 2017. Nimisha, who was working as a nurse in Yemen, was accused of chopping his body into pieces and disposing of it in a water tank. She was running a clinic along with Mahdi. She claimed that he brutally tortured her after seizing her passport and this led to the murder.
