KOTTAYAM: A youth was beaten up by a gang for sending obscene text messages to a woman through Instagram. The youth, a native of Mundakkayam, was beaten up by the woman's boyfriend and accomplices. Police arrested three persons in connection with the incident. The arrested have been identified as Femil Thomas, Emmanuel Joseph and Mithun Sathyan.

The attacked youth had sent an obscene message to a nursing student from Pala through Instagram. The woman then shared this information with her boyfriend.

Following this, the girl's boyfriend texted a message to the youth from her Instagram account asking him to meet her in person. He was asked to meet her at her relative's house near Chotti. The youth was attacked by the boyfriend and gang when he reached the area to meet the girl. Police have registered a case against the gang for attempted murder and remanded them.
