THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The groundwater department will now have a digital system to check the salinity of the water prior to the construction of the tube well. It has purchased a state-of-the-art geophysical logger unit from the UK for Rs 80 lakh.

It was inaugurated by Minister Roshi Augustine. The geophysical logger unit can be used to check the salinity and iron content of the soil ahead of the construction of tube wells.

This will enable efficient implementation of public drinking water projects in coastal areas and facilitate scientific study to ensure the availability of freshwater.
