JAIPUR: The sale of soft drinks has been suspended following the death of seven children who drank soft drinks. The incident took place in Sirohi village in Rajasthan. The children died after consuming locally made cold drinks in the village. The parents said that the children felt unwell the next day after having the drink which was sold on Wednesday and were later admitted to hospital.

Following the incident, samples were collected from vendors for testing. Authorities have strongly advised traders not to sell these till the test results come out.

Meanwhile, Rajasthan Health Minister Prasad Lal Meena came out with an argument that soft drinks were not the cause of the children's deaths. The minister told reporters that he had spoken to the collector and that there was a medical report that the virus had been found in the dead children. The minister said the situation was under control and a survey would be conducted on the cause of the virus in children.
