PARASSALA: Two policemen were suspended in connection with the incident in which a vigilance team found money in a police jeep. The suspended have been identified as Jyothish Kumar, grade sub inspector of Parassala police station and driver Anil Kumar.

Unaccounted money of Rs 13,960 was found in a vigilance probe conducted by around 4:45 am on April 6. The investigation was conducted based on the complaint that the border area police have been extensively collecting money from goods trucks, coming to Kerala from Tamil Nadu, in the border areas.

The police vehicle, which was returning to the station after patrolling duty, was halted by the vigilance team and examined. 100, 200 and 500 rupee notes were found folded and bundled inside the jeep.

The police officials were unable to provide clear answers when asked about the source of the money. The money recovered was not registered in the cash declaration register as well. The action was taken on the conclusion that the policeman had taken bribes.
