Pay wards which were taken over by hospital staff cannot be given to patients for Covid treatment. Citing this situation we have earlier published a report titled 'Covid paywardukal jeevanakar kudikidappaki'. Covid crisis has created unprecedented situation. As part of this, the pay wards of KHRWS were taken over by the respective hospitals as per the order of the Health Department. Accordingly, the paywards were changed for the treatment of Covid patients. At the same time, a certain percentage of paydays were transferred to accommodate employees. It was left to the staff because of the lack of transportation during the Covid period. But even when the situation has subsided, some hospitals refuse to return the pay wads.
Pay ward is a great relief to the common people who need inpatient treatment. Through this the patient will also get the care of his own family. Pay ward is an idea devised by the government with such good intentions.But now certain hospitals are trying to sabotage this and the common people gets affected. Employees refuses to vacate in addition, more staff have taken over the rooms. The hospital management also claims of not having vacancy in pay wards.
69 hospitals have 75 payward buildings with 1885 rooms. After repeated requests only hospitals in Thiruvananthapuram has returned the pay wards, this has not been the case in other districts. Before Covid, he received around Rs 2 crore per month as rent from the payrolls. When this revenue stopped, the government gave Rs 60 crore to KHRWS. It has been informed that the money will not be received anymore.Therefore, the Minister of Health, acting on behalf of the people, should immediately intervene and find a solution.
