THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A special unit headed by DySPs will be formed to investigate POCSO cases which were punishable by death, in the context of police collusion and failure in the courts without conducting a serious investigation or collection of evidence.
No new posts will be created. There are 106 C-category stations registering less than 500 cases per year. Of these, 44 stations will be handed over to SIs and inspectors will be transferred to POCSO Investigation Division.
Police are subverting a crime punishable by up to 3 years to life in prison and the death penalty if the victim dies. Defendants were convicted in only 18.32% of cases. From 2013 to 2018, out of 1255 cases completed, only 230 were convicted. In Kozhikode, out of 282 cases, only 23 were convicted.
