CHENNAI: BJP district secretary has been arrested for trying to claim insurance money by burning his own car The incident happened in Tamil Nadu. BJP Tiruvallur West district secretary Sathish Kumar's car was set on fire on the night of April 14. He then complained to the police that someone had set his vehicle on fire.

The car was parked in front of a house at Madhuravoyal in Chennai. Seeing fire, his neighbours and Sathish's relatives rushed to the spot and informed the police. Police expanded their probe on suspicion that a petrol bomb was hurled. The incident came to light when the CCTV visuals were examined.

A man wearing a white shirt was seen riding a bicycle towards the car and looking through the car windows. After some time, another man in a dark suit came near the car and sprayed something on the car. The car was in blaze in minutes.

While checking the visuals, the police suspected that the person who set the car on fire was similar to Sathish Kumar. He later confessed to the crime during interrogation.

Satheesh told police that his wife had been forcing him to buy gold for some time and had decided to set the car on fire as he did not have enough money to pay for it. His wife also forced him to sell the car. He then planned to burn the car and claim the insurance money. He decided to buy gold for his wife with that amount. However, CCTV foiled all his plan. He was arrested by the police and later released.
