PALAKKAD: The arrest of those in custody for the double murders in Palakkad is expected to be recorded on Monday. Currently, two people are in police custody in connection with the Sreenivasan murder case and four in Subair murder case. The phone records of the accused are being examined in detail. The investigation team estimated that more information will be available from the phone.

According to the police, all the accused in Sreenivasan’s murder are residents of Palakkad. An investigation is also underway into the vehicles in which they had travelled.

As per information, two people, including the brother of one of the assailants who attacked Sreenivasan, are in police custody.

Severe criticisms had been levelled against the police for not arresting the accused even after two days of the incident. However, police sources said that the delay was due to their attempt to nab the real culprits and they would be arrested soon. The lack of proper information from eyewitnesses is a major challenge faced by the investigation team, even though the murders took place in broad daylight. ADGP Vijay Sakhare will meet Minister Krishnankutty on Monday to brief him on the progress of the investigation into the cases.

Meantime, an all-party meeting will be held at Palakkad district collectorate under the leadership of Minister Krishnankutty at 3:30 pm today. The BJP leaders, who had initially said that they will not attend, have also decided to participate in the meeting. The Popular Front leaders had earlier informed that they will attend the meeting.
