NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court on Monday cancelled the bail granted to Ashish Mishra, son of Union Minister Ajay Mishra, in the Lakhimpur Kheri violence case. The court has asked him to surrender in a week’s time.
Eight people were killed in Lakhimpur Kheri on October 3 last year during the violence that broke out when farmers were protesting against Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya's visit to the area. Four farmers were mowed down by an SUV in which Ashish Mishra was travelling.
The Allahabad High Court had granted him bail on February 10. The families of the dead farmers had filed a plea questioning this. The Supreme Court’s action was following this. The case was considered by a bench led by Chief Justice N V Ramana
