NEW DELHI: A religious organization has approached the Supreme Court seeking directive against the use of bulldozers for razing the houses of criminal case suspects in various BJP-ruled states. Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind has tweeted of filing a plea in the Supreme Court. The method of demolishing the houses or shops of those involved in criminal cases and other attacks had first begun in Uttar Pradesh. Later, similar actions were taken by the governments in Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat as well.

The organization has asked the court to direct the central government and various state governments not to demolish anyone’s home or shop without the court’s permission. The request has been made by the organization’s president Arshad Madani. The petition has been filed against the dangerous politics of bulldozers that have been started to destroy minorities especially Muslims under the guise of crime prevention in BJP-ruled states, he said. A number of ministers and legislators, including the chief minister and other ministers have made statements advocating such acts and especially threatened the minority groups. Representatives or officials should be barred from taking action until the criminal court decides its verdict on such cases, demanded the organization.
