THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The High Level Committee headed by the Chief Minister has approved the recommendation of the script revision committee to include alphabet in the textbooks for the coming academic year and directed the chief secretary to implement it. However, the textbook printing is almost complete. The textbook distribution is scheduled to start in the second week of May. Meanwhile, discussions on how to incorporate the alphabet into textbooks are in progress. The final decision in this regard rests with the Department of Education and the SCERT. Either the alphabet should be printed separately and delivered to schools. Or print the alphabet in the second unit of the textbook. As the Minister of Education himself has stated that he wants the alphabet to be in the textbooks this year itself, action may be taken soon. The alphabet is found in LP books. SSK will be responsible for printing and delivering to schools. However, the department said that a final decision on this hasn't been taken.
