THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: It is a well-known fact that several employees of the secretariat are entering and leaving their offices at their own will despite the introduction of the punching system. Now, the authorities are planning to set up an 'Access Control' system at the Secretariat to ensure the attendance of the employees. The authorities are planning to introduce the system in the first week of May. This is a flap barrier system that can only be opened by swiping the card, as is the case in Kochi metro stations.

A person has to swipe the card in order to open the flap barrier to enter or leave the building. All those times will be recorded. Hence, it is possible to know exactly how many times the employees went outside during duty time. Thus, the higher officials will be able to find out if an employee left the office for unofficial reasons. Those who skip duty at duty time will also lose their salaries as the new system will be linked to Spark. The cost of the flap barrier system is Rs 1.95 crore. It is being implemented by Keltron with

the help of Kochi Metro.

At present, punching is mandatory for the employees in the morning and evening. However, there is no system to record if an employee goes out in between. Employees can use the existing identity card in the new system.

Access Control system

An electronic system that can be controlled via network. It functions by connecting the software to the barcode on the ID card. It also comes with two to four flap barriers. There is a master control system for opening barriers together in case of an emergency such as fire.

1000 cards for visitors

Visitors will be given a card with the word Visitor written on it. They can enter the Secretariat building by swiping these cards. The cards must be returned while coming out. 1000 cards will be prepared.
