THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Minister Veena George has said that the pay wards of the Kerala Health Research and Welfare Society (KHRWS) in government hospitals from district level to medical colleges will be opened to patients.

The minister said that closing down is not this government's policy and incidents which causes difficulties to patients must be avoided. Kerala Kaumudi on Friday reported that some of the pay wards taken over by the hospitals for Covid treatment were not being given to the patients as many hospital staff has become permanent residents there. An editorial was also published on Sunday pointing out that the minister should intervene. After this, the minister informed that the issue will be resolved soon.

Although the KHRWS initiated action on the recommendation of the Director of Health to vacate the pay wards, the hospital authorities were not ready. With the intervention of the Minister, the grievances of women and the elderly, who were not given pay wards in the busy government hospitals after Covid, will be resolved.
