THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Special Branch has come up with an investigation report against the CPO in the incident where a K-Rail protester was kicked by the police officer in Kazhakkoottam. The report stated that there was no need to kick the protester. The investigation was conducted by Special Branch DySP Stuart Keeler on the orders of Rural SP Divya Gopinath. On Thursday, Shabeer, a civil police officer at Mangalapuram station was seen kicking a protester during the agitation against the installation of survey stones for the SilverLine project. Shabeer is likely to be suspended. According to the intelligence unit, the police did not make adequate preparations despite the possibility of clashes.
Meanwhile, Youth Congress National Committee member JS Akhil has lodged a complaint with the State Human Rights Commission and the Chairman of the Police Complaints Authority, alleging that the police had responded to the protest against K-Rail in a brutal way. In his complaint, Akhil alleged that the officials of the Mangalapuram police station had violated human rights by attacking women and children in the absence of lady police officers.
The clash between the police and K-Rail protesters took place at Karichara in Kazhakkoottam on Thursday after the protesters blocked the officials who came to lay the stones for SilverLine. The police were seen kicking the protestors in the melee. Congress activists Joy and SK Suji were admitted to the Medical College hospital with serious injuries. Joy is in critical condition.
It was CPO Shabeer who kicked Joy. Shabeer allegedly continued to assault Joy even after the latter fell unconscious. Meanwhile, the Mangalapuram police said that they only ensured the safety of the officers who came to install the survey stones. A case has been registered against the protesters.
