THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Action has been taken against a policeman who kicked a protester who protested against the SilverLine survey at Karichara in Kazhakoottam. Shabeer, a civil police officer at the Mangalapuram police station, has been transferred to the AR camp in Thiruvananthapuram. The action was taken for kicking and slapping the protester in the face.
The district police chief also ordered a departmental inquiry against Shabeer. The action was taken based on the investigation report of Special Branch DySP Stuart Keeler. The report stated that it was not right to kick the protesters and that there was no need to kick them.
At the same time, the report stated that the police did not use excessive force and only resorted to resistance against the protesters. Meanwhile, several incidents came out which proved that Shabeer was problematic both on and off duty.
Shabeer was named an accused in a case registered at Thumpa station on September 25, 2011, for assaulting an elderly man who had come to collect cable monthly and destroying a scooter. He was also named an accused in a case for assaulting a person named Rameshan. On the night of June 7, 2019, Shabeer was caught driving a car recklessly and taken to the station. He then misbehaved and shouted at the Asst commissioner.
