LUCKNOW: The main accused in Lakhimpur Kheri violence case, Ashish Misra, surrendered in the judicial magistrate court, as directed by the Supreme Court. Misra was shifted to Lakhimpur Kheri district jail by 3:25 pm. Heavy police force has been deployed in the area.

Ashish Misra, son of Union Minister Ajay Misra, was earlier granted bail by the Allahabad High Court. However, the Supreme Court cancelled his bail and ordered him to surrender. A bench led by Chief Justice N V Ramana had ordered Misra to surrender within a week. He surrendered on Sunday, a day before the week's notice.

The Lakhimpur Kheri violence occurred in October 2021, when a vehicle ran over the farmers, protesting against the central government’s farm laws, in Uttar Pradesh’s Lakhimpur Kheri region. Four farmers were killed in the incident. Misra, who was arrested on October 9, was granted bail in February.
