KOCHI: The decision on electricity price hike will be taken before July, said the chairman of Electricity Regulatory Commission. Currently, one unit of electricity costs Rs 6.35. This is a reasonable rate when compared to that of other states, said the commission.
The final public evidence collection of the Regulatory Commission on the tariff rates given by the KSEB was held in Kochi, on Monday. Earlier, four such events were held in various parts of the state. The evidence collection ended by Monday noon. Currently, the KSEB has demanded a hike of 95 paise per unit. This is a reasonable rate when compared to that of states like Maharashtra, said the commission.
A final opinion cannot be said about whether charges will be hiked or not, said the Electricity Regulatory Commission. The decision will be taken only on the basis of the revenue expenditure of KSEB and its cost including the interests. Moreover, people’s opinion will also be considered in the matter. An ultimate decision will be taken by the end of next month after considering all these things, said the commission.
