THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: An attempt was made to extort money through WhatsApp in the name of Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan. The attempt was made using the phone number of a native of Coimbatore. The incident came to light when the Chief Minister's personal staff received a message demanding money.
Following this, the Chief Minister's private secretary lodged a complaint with the cyber police. Police have questioned a Coimbatore resident in connection with the incident. Police suspect that a North Indian gang was behind the incident.
