NEW DELHI: The Seventh Raisina Dialogue, which discusses contemporary issues, including the Russian invasion of Ukraine and the challenges facing the world economy after Covid, began in Delhi in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

European Commission president Ursula von der Leyen said that Russia's and China's disregard for international borders was a threat to world peace and that discussions on this should arise in the dialogue.

Leyen said the core principles that underpin the peace and security across the world are at "stake". In Asia as well as in Europe, she said, the images coming from Russia's attack on Ukraine have shocked the world.

"We see Russia's aggression as a direct threat to our security. We will make sure that the unprovoked and unjustified aggression against Ukraine will be a strategic failure. This is why we are doing what we can to help Ukraine to fight for freedom. This is why we need to impose massive sharp and effective sanctions," she added.

The three-day panel discussion, co-hosted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Observer Research Foundation, will feature 210 dignitaries from 90 countries.
